Pique Sittings Out Final Match

Spain will be without Barcelona defender Gerard Pique for their final group match of the World Cup 2014 against Australia as the defender hobbled out of training with the an injury. Spain were knocked out of the tournament after having played just two matches. They suffered heavy defeats against Netherlands and Chile, which has been uncharacteristic of them. The Spanish team has conceded very few goals in the last few years, but they suffered a total collapse in both these matches.

Pique’s Pelvis Peformance

Gerard Pique plays a crucial role in Barcelona’s defence but the Spanish performer has been suffering from a pelvic injury which he picked up during the Champions League quarter-final match against Athletic Madrid.

The former Manchester United player is working with the main squad of Barcelona but it still remains unclear whether or not he will be able to recover in time for the last match of the league as Barcelona faces off against Athletic Madrid on May 17 in a match that will determine who wins the league title.

SHAKIRA HAILS PIQUE

Pop singer Shakira has praised the fighting spirit of her boyfriend Gerard Pique. Shakira made mention of the Spanish soccer club again when she recalled that some of the hundreds of Israeli and Arab children who on Tuesday welcomed her to a bilingual school in Jerusalem were wearing Barcelona jerseys.

“This visit is an opportunity to emphasize the importance of how to raise our children,” the superstar said.

Shakira is participating in the inaugural session of a forum of conferences sponsored by Israeli President Shimon Peres and entitled “Facing the 2011 of tomorrow,” an initiative that – among other things – provides a forum for discussing strategies to guarantee protection and education for children.

PIQUE WANTS REPEAT OF 2009

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has said that his team can repeat the success of 2009 by winning many trophies believes.

PIQUE DENIES RIFT

Gerard pique has denied that there is a rift between him and Daniel Alves. The duo appeared to become involved in a heated exchange which continued for a spell, with the Brazilian in particular unhappy with the Spanish international, and he appeared to let him know his opinion.

Addressing the media afterwards, the full-back said that the pair had already resolved their differences and that the incident had been forgotten.

He commented: “Pique and I have already solved it, our pulses were running too high, but in the end nothing happened.

PIQUE IN TEAM OF THE YEAR

Gerard Piqué has made it into the team of the year 2010 after an impressive season. Barcelona players keep getting individual accolades. David Villa was named Male Sportsman of the Year by USSA and now five of his teammates have been selected in L’Équipe (a reputed French newspaper) team of the year: four world champions with Spain, and Lionel Messi – the most talented player of the current generation of footballers.

MALDINI PRAISES PIQUE

AC Milan legend Maldini has said that Barcelona defender Gerrard Pique is the best in world. Interviewed in L’Equipe, the 41-year-old was particularly expansive about his views on football a year after his retirement from the professional game.

“When I see Messi play, in my opinion, he should win the Ballon d’Or every year. He is an unbelievable player.

“I like Gerrard Pique a lot. He has class. He knows how to defend and also how to score. He is perfect in a duo with Carles Puyol.
